Personal injury can result working with the tire and rim without precautions. Personal injury can result if the weight shifts and causes movement of the tire and rim. When starting nuts on the studs, do not put your arm between the rim and final drive without first wedging a block of oak between the rim and final drive. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
- Use suitable lifting devices (4) on each side of the front axle.

- Raise the front axle to the machine and install the front axle to the machine.
- Install eight washers and bolts (5) to the front axle. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 300 ± 40 N·m (220 ± 30 lb ft).
- Connect tube assembly (3) to the front axle.

- Install front fender (2) on each side of the machine and three bolts (1) .

End By:
- Install the drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive shaft - Remove and Install".
- Install the tire and rim. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim - Remove and Install".
- Disconnect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
