Battery - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove bolts (2) and cover assembly (3) .

  1. Remove bolts (1) and guard assembly (4) .

  1. Disconnect wire harness (5) from the backup alarm.

  1. Remove bolts (6) from cover assembly (7). Remove cover assembly (7) .

  1. Disconnect cables (8) from the batteries.

  1. Remove nuts (9) and the hold-down brackets.

  1. Use a suitable lifting device to remove the batteries from the machine. The weight of the batteries is 27 kg (60 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Use a suitable lifting device to install batteries to the original location.

  1. Install the hold-down brackets and nuts (9) .

  1. Connect cables (8) to the batteries.

  1. Install cover assembly (7) and bolts (6) .

  1. Connect wire harness (5) to the backup alarm.

  1. Install guard assembly (4) and bolts (1) .

  1. Install cover assembly (3) and bolts (2) .
