Location of Components (1) Transmission (2) Flywheel Clutch (3) Diesel Engine (4) Steering Clutch (5) Final Drive (6) Universal Joint |
Power that is from the diesel engine (3) is sent from the engine to the flywheel clutch (2). The flywheel clutch is engaged and disengaged hydraulically. The output shaft of the flywheel clutch drives the upper shaft in the transmission (1) through the universal joint (6) .
The transmission has six "FORWARD" speeds and five "REVERSE" speeds. The selection of these speeds is done manually. The bevel pinion that is at the rear of the transmission sends the power to the bevel gear. The power is then sent through steering clutches (4). Then, the power is sent into the final drives (5). Then, power is sent to the sprockets which drive the tracks.
The bevel gear, the steering clutches and the brakes are located inside the steering clutch and the bevel gear case.
The steering clutches are used to turn the machine. The brakes give assistance to the action of the steering clutches and brakes are used to stop the machine.
