Start By:

  1. Separate the tractor and the scraper. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tractor and Scraper - Separate". The information is in this manual.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the oil system.

  1. Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to the link assembly. Remove four bolts (1) , lock (2) and yoke (3) from pin (4) . Repeat the procedure for the other side.

  1. Use a brass rod and a hammer to remove pin (4) from the hitch. Remove the link assembly from the hitch. The link assembly weighs 45 kg (98 lb). Repeat the procedure for the other side.

  1. Remove bolt (5) and the clips from the hitch. Remove 12 bolts (6) and six clamps (7) from the hitch. Lay the hoses and the tubes away from the hitch.

  1. Loosen two retaining nuts (8) and disconnect two hose assemblies (9) from hydraulic block (10) .

  1. Remove three bolts (11) and the clips from the hitch. Disconnect four hose assemblies (12) . Lay the tubes and the hoses away from the hitch.

  1. Remove six bolts (13) and three clamps (14) from the hitch. Lay the tubes away from the hitch.

  1. Remove cotter pin (15) from pin (16) . Remove pin (16) from nut (17) . Use Tooling (A) to remove nut (17) from pin (18) .

  1. Remove four bolts (19) from pin (18) . Remove spacer (20) from pin (18) . Remove six bolts (21) and two retainers (22) from pin (23) .

  1. Attach two nylon lifting straps, lifting chains and a hoist to the hitch. Use a hammer and a brass rod to remove two pins (18) and (23) . Remove the hitch from the machine. The hitch weighs 500 kg (1102 lb) .
