Disengaged Parking Brake Control Lever

(1) Parking brake control lever.

  1. Put blocks in front of the wheels and blocks behind the wheels. This will prevent the machine from moving when the parking brake control lever is moved to the DISENGAGED position.

  1. Move parking brake lever assembly (1) which connects to the cable assembly to the DISENGAGED position. The parking brake control lever is in the DISENGAGED position when the lever assembly is completely lowered.

    Parking Brake Components

    (2) Nut. (3) Clevis. (4) Pin. (5) Lever. (6) Cotter Pin.

  1. Loosen nut (2) .

  1. Pull down on clevis assembly (3) . This will remove the slack from brake lever assembly (1) , and the slack from the cable assembly.

  1. Remove cotter pin (6) and pin (4) .

  1. Push up on brake lever assembly (1) . This will remove any slack from the parking brake components.

  1. Turn the clevis assembly (3) down two full turns in order to allow free play in the parking brake control lever.

  1. The hole in clevis assembly (3) must be in line with the hole in brake lever (5) . This is accomplished by turning clevis assembly (3) upward on the cable end. Clevis assembly (3) can also be turned in the downward direction on the cable end.

  1. Install pin (4) and cotter pin (6) .

  1. Tighten locknut (2) .

  1. Check for the correct adjustment. There should be 10 to 15 mm (0.40 to 0.60 inch) of free play at the end of lever (6) . This is the difference between the DISENGAGED position of the parking brake and the ENGAGED position of the parking brake. The parking brake should not reach the end of the stroke, when the parking brake is fully ENGAGED. If this is the case, the parking brake is adjusted correctly.
