Water Temperature Regulator - Remove and Install

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant level below the water temperature regulator level.

  1. Remove four bolts (2) and the gasket. Remove water temperature regulator housing (1) .

  1. Remove four bolts (3) , cover (4) and the gasket.

  1. Remove water temperature regulator (5) .

  1. Use Tool (A) in order to remove the seal from the water temperature regulator housing.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


Note: Check the condition of the gaskets and the O-ring seals. If the gaskets or O-ring seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Install the seal in the housing with Tool (B) until the seal is in the housing counterbore seat.


    NOTICE

    If the water temperature regulator is installed incorrectly, it will cause the engine to overheat.

  1. Install water temperature regulator (5) , as shown.

  1. Install the gasket, cover (4) and four bolts (3) .

  1. Install water temperature regulator housing (1) and bolts (2) .

  1. Fill the cooling system to the correct level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct fluid and the correct filling procedure.
