  1. Remove the metering pump (steering). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Metering Pump (Steering) - Remove" for the correct procedure.

NOTICE

Be certain that all the parts of the metering pump are clean and there is no dirt and debris. Do not use cloth or paper towels to dry parts. Lint or other material can get into the hydraulic system. This can cause damage to the components. Replace any parts that have scratches or burns which could result in leaks.

    NOTICE

Failure to follow the recommended procedure or the specified tooling that is required for the procedure could result in damage to components.

To avoid component damage, follow the recommended procedure using the recommended tools.

  1. Position metering pump (1) on a suitable work bench.

Note: Mark the components for assembly purposes. Pay attention to the disassembly procedure for the correct orientation of the components during the assembly procedure.

Note: Do not place the metering pump into a vise. A vise could damage the metering pump.

  1. Remove six bolts (2) and six washers (3). Remove one bolt (4) and one washer (5) in order to separate the body from the pump.

Note: There is a roll pin that is pressed into the bottom of bolt (4). This roll pin prevents ball (12) from entering the passage that is indicated by the arrow.

Note: When the bolts are installed, the bolts should be tightened to a torque of 30 ± 5 N·m (22.1 ± 3.7 lb ft).

  1. Remove cover (7) and O-ring seal (13) from the metering pump.

  1. Remove gerotor housing (6) .

  1. Remove O-ring seal (14) .

  1. Remove gerotor (8) and ground drive control (10) .

  1. Remove spacer plate (11) .

  1. Remove ball (12) .

Note: During assembly, be careful so that ball (12) does not fall out of the hole that is indicated by the arrow. Special bolt (4) contains the ball after the ball is installed.

  1. Remove O-ring seal (15) from body (9) .

Note: When the pin is installed, align the pin in the metering body and the gerotor assembly, as shown above.

Note: The alignment marks at points (X) and (Y) are for installation purposes.

  1. Separate control sleeve (16) from spool (20) .

Note: During removal, be certain that you do not bind spool (20) in control sleeve (16). Rotate the control sleeve while the control sleeve is being removed from the spool.

Note: For installation purposes, pay close attention to the orientation of the springs.

  1. Remove four springs (23) .
