NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

  1. Disconnect the case drain hose (1) from the tee (2). Place the open end of the case drain hose (1) into the container for measuring.

  1. Install a cap 13/16 - UN into tee (2) of the swivel.

  1. Disconnect connector (3) from the solenoid valve for the swing parking brake (4) .

  1. Start the engine and place the power mode switch in POWER MODE position.

  1. Place the engine speed dial at position "10" and AEC switch OFF. Maintain the maximum no-load speed at 2010 ± 50 rpm.

Reference: Make reference to Testing and Adjusting, "Operational Checks" for engine rpm settings.

  1. Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 55° ± 5°C (131° ± 9°F).

Note: Move the swing control lever. Make sure that the swing parking brake is activated.

  1. Move the swing control lever fully for one minute. Measure the case drain oil three times. For each measurement, change the position of the swing motor .

  1. Connect connector (3) to the solenoid valve for swing parking brake (4). Release the swing parking brake.

The following values specify the maximum acceptable flow of case drain oil when the swing relief pressure is set at 27500 ± 980 kPa (4000 ± 140 psi).

New swing motor ... 30 L/min (7.9 US gpm)
Rebuilt swing motor ... 35 L/min (9.2 US gpm)
