After a failure in the brake circuit, clean the screen for the front brake oil cooler. The screen for the front brake oil cooler is located behind the engine.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Remove the drain plug from the oil cooler and drain the oil into a suitable container.
- Clean the drain plug and install the drain plug.
- Remove the bolts from each end of the adapter.
Note: To prevent damage to the screen, hold the screen in place in the adapter while you remove the adapter.
- Remove the adapter and the oil cooler screen. Wash the oil cooler screen in a clean, nonflammable solvent.
- Install the oil cooler screen in the adapter. Make sure that the cone-shaped end is pointing toward the oil cooler.
- Inspect the seal in each end of the adapter. Replace the seals, if necessary.
- Install the adapter and the oil cooler screen. Tighten the bolts.
- Start the engine and run the engine at low idle. Check for leaks.
- Check the oil level of the hoist, torque converter and brake tank. Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark in the sight gauge.

- Stop the engine. If necessary, add oil.
