The 7W1479 Magneto is the service replacement for the two 1W3714 Magnetos originally used on the above engines. The new magneto is more reliable, and only one per engine is needed. Some changes to the engine are necessary before installation of the new magneto. See the instructions that follow.
Turn the engine flywheel to position the crankshaft at No. 1 piston TDC. Remove the two original magnetos from the engine; see the Service Manual.
Modification Of Oil Cooler Lines (49C1-49C923)
(1) Remove the former tee and install 7W2454 Tee (1).
(2) At time of installation of tee (1), install new O-ring seals as follows: 3P651 O-ring Seal (2), two 3P650 O-ring Seals (3), 3P649 O-ring Seal (4), 3P656 O-ring Seal (5) and two 3P655 O-ring Seals (6). Lubricate the seals with the lubricant being sealed at time of installation. Install two 3J5389 Plugs (7).
Installation Of 7W1479 Magneto (49C1-Up)
(1) Put 6L5270 Gasket (1) in position; then use the former bolts, washers and nuts to install 7W1479 Magneto (2). Connect one end of 1V1151 Wire Assembly (3) to a ground pad on magneto (2) with 4B1236 Screw (4). Put the other end of wire assembly (3) under the head of bolt (5) of the cover assembly.
(2) Put 6D47 Nut (6) with a 5B7376 Washer on 1M644 Bolt (7). Use two 6L5270 Gaskets (8) and the original bolts, washers and nuts to install 8L9755 Cover (9).
(3) Put bolt (7) through the center hole in cover (8), and tighten it into magneto drive shaft (10). Hold bolt (7) to prevent turning; then tighten nut (6) against cover (8) until gear (11) is pulled away from the main magneto drive gear.
(4) Connect the ignition cable assemblies to the magneto.
