The calibration of the rear steer is performed with the engine ON. Always perform all the calibrations for the rear steer (full right, centered, full left).
- Move the steering mode switch to the REAR position. Engage the parking brake while this calibration is being performed.
- Turn the key start switch to the ON position. Start the engine.
- Check that the alert indicator for the machine ECM on the Caterpillar Monitoring System is NOT flashing.
Expected Result:
The alert indicator for the machine ECM is FLASHING.
YES - The ECM is reporting a fault at this time. The fault must be corrected prior to performing calibrations. See Troubleshooting, "Diagnostic Code Procedures".
NO - The machine ECM is not reporting a fault at this time. Proceed to Step 4.
Note: If a service code of CID 744 FMI 13 is present, these procedures may correct the fault. Proceed to Step 4.
- Enter calibration mode (mode 6) of the Caterpillar Monitoring System. In order to enter the calibration mode, press and hold the mode scroll switch (1). Release the switch when "-6-" is showing in the display area.
- Enter submode c09 In order to enter this submode, press and hold the Increment / Hold / Clear / Store switch (2) in the INCREMENT position. Release the switch when submode number c09 (3) is showing.
- Use the manual steer switch in order to move the rear wheels to the FULL RIGHT position.
- Store the value of the signal that is sent from the position sensor for the rear wheel. In order to store the value, press and hold the Increment / Hold / Clear / Store switch (2) in the STORE position. While the switch is pressed the accepted symbol (4) or the not accepted symbol (5) will be shown. Observe the symbol while the switch is in the STORE position. Release the Increment / Hold / Clear / Store switch (2) .
Expected Result: The accepted symbol (4) or the not accepted symbol (5) show on the display.
- Accepted symbol (4) was showing. Proceed to Step 8.
- Not accepted symbol (5) was showing. Check that the sensor for the rear wheel is at the FULL RIGHT position. Repeat Step 7. If not accepted symbol (5) is shown again or if a service code of CID 744 FMI 13 is still present, replace the position sensor for the rear wheel.
- Accepted symbol (4) was showing. Proceed to Step 8.
- Enter submode c10. In order to enter the submode, press and hold the Increment / Hold / Clear Store switch in the INCREMENT position. Release the switch when submode number c10 (3) is showing.
- Use the manual steer switchin order to move the rear wheels to the CENTER position.
Proceed to Step 11.
- Not accepted symbol (5) was showing. Check that the sensor for the rear wheel is at the CENTER position. Repeat Step 10. If not accepted symbol (5) is shown again or if a service code of CID 744 FMI 3 is still present, replace the position sensor for the rear wheel.
- Accepted symbol (4) was showing. Proceed to Step 11.
- Enter submode c11. In order to enter the submode, press and hold the Increment / Hold / Clear / Store switch in the INCREMENT position. Release the switch when submode number "c11" (3) is showing.
- Use the manual steer switch in order to move the rear wheels to the FULL LEFT position.
Release the Increment / Hold / Clear / Store switch (2)
Expected Result: The accepted symbol (4) or the not accepted symbol (5) show on the display.
- Accepted symbol (4) was showing. The rear steer is now calibrated.
- Not accepted symbol (5) was showing. Check that the sensor for the rear wheel is at the center position. Repeat Step 13. If not accepted symbol (5) is shown again or if a service code of CID 744 FMI 13 is still present, replace the position sensor for the rear wheel.
- Accepted symbol (4) was showing. The rear steer is now calibrated.
