(1) Tighten the purge screw to the following torque. ... 11 ± 4 N·m (8 ± 3 lb ft)
(2) Lubricate the sealing lips with a minimal amount of the appropriate lubricant.
Note: Lubricate the plates and discs with the appropriate lubricant prior to the assembly. Assemble the plates and discs so that a steel plate is at each end of the pack.
(3) Thickness of a 118-6606 Plate
- New plate ... 6.35 ± 0.13 mm (.250 ± .005 inch)
- Worn plate ... 6.00 mm (.236 inch)
(4) Thickness of a 105-8750 Disc
- New disc ... 7.10 ± 0.13 mm (.280 ± .005 inch)
- Worn disc ... 5.6 mm (0.22 inch)
(5) 8V-3609 Springs (four)
- Length under test force ... 86.4 mm (3.40 inch)
- Test force ... 715.0 N (160.74 lb)
- Free length after test ... 107.7 mm (4.24 inch)
- Outside diameter ... 20.42 mm (.804 inch)
- Test force ... 715.0 N (160.74 lb)
(6) Thickness of the four plates and three discs
- New plates and discs ... 46.70 ± 0.91 mm (1.838 ± .036 inch)
- Minimum thickness ... 41.1 mm (1.62 inch)
Note: To obtain the minimum permissible thickness, measure the thickness of each plate and disc and then add all of these measurements. When a disc is checked for thickness, measure the depth of each groove in the disc. The depth of a groove must be greater than 0.46 mm (.018 inch).
Reference: For additional information on measuring the thickness of a disc and groove, refer to the Service Manual module for Testing and Adjusting, "Service Brake Discs - Check" for the machine that is being serviced.
