The photograph shows the front of the motor grader. (1) Accumulator. |
There are two all wheel drive accumulators (1) . There is one accumulator for each all wheel drive piston motor. There is one accumulator on each side of the front axle. The accumulators are provided in order to reduce the pressure spikes in the piston motors. These pressure spikes occur when the all wheel drive system is operated at low ambient temperatures. The accumulators also provide a reservoir for the oil that is pushed out of the piston motor. The oil is pushed out of the piston motors, when the pistons of the piston motors are operating. This causes a pressure spike in the piston motors that could damage the Duo-Cone seals. The accumulators prevent excessive pressure from causing damage to the Duo-Cone seals. The Duo-Cone seals are located on the shaft of the piston motor.
