PROBLEM
The air filter restriction warning lamp may not operate properly on certain 422F and 434F Backhoe Loaders. If the air filter is clogged, at high engine speeds, the lamp on the monitoring system will illuminate. But, if the engine speed is lowered, the lamp may turn off due to the lower depression created by the engine. This results in the filters not being cleaned until the operator actually sees the lamp is illuminated, or the filters are heavily clogged. The switch used is not a latching switch, and the monitoring system does not electronically latch the lamp. |

In order to allow equitable parts availability to all participating dealers, please limit your initial parts order to not exceed 15% of dealership population. This is an initial order recommendation only, and the ultimate responsibility for ordering the total number of parts needed to satisfy the program lies with the dealer. |
ACTION REQUIRED
A mechanically latching type switch may be retro-fitted to the air cleaner. Once the filter is clogged, the lamp will stay on until the operator manually pushes the reset button on the back of the new switch. The new 318-0302 Indicator Assembly Switch is a direct replacement for the original 276-4836 Switch located on the side of the air filter housing. 1. Fabricate a jumper harness using a 246-6560 Wire Assembly in order to fit the replacement indicator assembly switch. The harness will need to be shortened in length to suit (approximately 200mm). 2. Cut the original connector from the engine harness, use the male and female connectors in the parts needed below, connect the original harness to the jumper harness. 3. Connect the jumper harness to the new switch located on the air cleaner housing. When the air filter becomes clogged, the warning lamp will stay illuminated. Once the filters are cleaned the reset button on the end of the new switch must be pressed to re-set the warning lamp. Refer to the machine Operation and Maintenance Manual. |
