Free length after test ... 4.84 in.(122.9 mm)

Outside diameter ... .70 in.(17.8 mm)

(5) Five clutch plates and four plates when new ... .319 to .340 in.(8.10 to 8.64 mm)

NOTICE

During all procedures of assembly, the meaning of dry parts is wash with a solvent. DO NOT USE KEROSENE.

NOTE: Put all straight and taper bores with their shaft seats as dry parts or with oil. If oil is used, use only SAE 10W or a lighter oil. Take off any extra oil.

(6) (7) Torque of the bolt and nut:

After putting oil on the tapers or leaving them as dry tapers, put the clutch cylinders on the input (top) shaft using their own weight to put the cylinders on their tapers. Move each cylinder .052 to .072 in. (1.32 to 1.83 mm) with a hydraulic press or by lightly hitting (in turn) on bolt (6) and nut (7) or on the spacer tool. Use a hammer to hit the spacer tool and then torque the bolt and nut again. After cylinder has the correct fit, remove the spacer tool and install the spider hub and collector. Tighten bolt (6) and nut (7) to torque of 1000 to 1390 lb. ft. (1350 to 1880 N·m).

(8) 3L3275 Spring:

Length under test force ... 2.06 in.(52.3 mm)

Free length after test ... 2.38 in.(60.5 mm)

Outside diameter ... .91 in.(23.1 mm)

(9) Torque of the nut:

After putting oil on the taper and taking off the extra oil (do not assemble dry parts) put the gear on the shaft and tighten by hand only. Tighten nut (9) to 150 to 220 lb. ft. (205 to 295 N·m). Make a mark at the position of the nut, and turn nut 70 to 90° more to move it a total minimum of .025 in. (0.6 mm). Check that the extension of the key is not further than the gear hub at the large end of the taper. Put oil on the capscrew threads of the nut lock and tighten until the reduction of the split gap is .000 to .015 in. (0.0 to 0.4 mm). Turn the screw.

(10) Torque of the bolt:

After putting oil on the tapers or leaving them as dry tapers put the reverse driven gear on reverse shaft. Use the weight of the gear to put it on the taper. Move the gear .030 to .046 in. (0.76 to 1.17 mm) with a hydraulic press or by lightly hitting, in turn, on bolt (10) or on spacer tool and torque the bolt again. After gear has the correct fit, remove the spacer tool, install the bearing and tighten bolt (10) to 1000 to 1390 lb. ft. (1350 to 1880 N·m).
