Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Disconnect batteries before performance of any service work.


Note: Before disconnecting the cable assemblies, mark the items for the proper connections in order to ensure correct assembly.

  1. Disconnect the cable assemblies (1) from electric starting motor (2).

    This part number has three electric starting motors. Disconnect the cable assemblies between all three electric starting motors.

  2. Attach a suitable lifting device to electric starting motor (2). The weight of the electric starting motor is 19.5 kg (43 lb).

  3. Disconnect the cable assemblies (1) from the electric starting motor (2) on the opposite side of the engine.

  4. Attach a suitable lifting device to electric starting motor (2). The weight of the electric starting motor is 19.5 kg (43 lb).

  5. Remove Bolts (3) and (4 and remove electric starting motor.)

  6. Remove bolts (3) and electric starting motor (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Inspect the gasket for the joint between the electric starting motor and the flywheel housing. Obtain a new gasket, if necessary.

  2. Install electric starting motor (2) and cable assemblies (1) in reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten nuts (5) and (6) to a torque of 35. ± 5 N·m (26 ± 4 lb ft).
