1693 Truck Engines (65B)
Some customers have desired information about the correct locations to connect gauges for checks of engine oil temperature and/or pressure on 1693 Truck Engines. For engine oil temperature on engines equipped with a Brake-Saver, the gauge must be connected at the rear of the priority valve on the right side of the engine. For engine oil pressure, the gauge must be connected into the lubrication system at a location between the filter outlet and the engine bearings. The best location for this gauge connection is at either the front or rear of the oil manifold on the right side of the cylinder block. The front connection has a 1/8-NPT thread, and the rear connection has a 1/4-NPT thread.
The maximum permissible oil temperature is 230°F (110°C), when the engine coolant temperature is 210°F (99°C) and the engine crankcase is filled with SAE 10W Oil that has an API (American Petroleum Institute) classification of CD. Normal engine oil pressure, with SAE 30 oil that has an API classification of CD at a temperature of 210°F (99°C), is in the range of 45 to 75 psi (310 to 520 kPa) at full load RPM or 10 to 16 psi (70 to 110 kPa) at low idle RPM.
