Reference: Service Magazine, June 19, 1978, Page 9, "Grind Material From Boss On Parts Service Cylinder Block To Give Clearance For Starting Motor Mounting Bolts".
Description of Change: When the 9N2796 Flywheel Housing was used on 3306 Truck Engines, the boss on the lower left rear side of the 2P8776 Cylinder Block had to be ground off to give enough clearance for the starting motor lower mounting bolt. This clearance problem has been corrected by the release of a new flywheel housing that has the starter mounting flange rotated (turned) 15 degrees counterclockwise, as viewed from the front of the engine. Because of the 15 degree rotation of the starter mounting flange, a new starter motor nose housing also has been released to prevent possible contact with the ring gear teeth. In addition, two new starting motor groups have been released that have the new nose housing.
The former starting motors can be used with the new flywheel housing, if the new nose housing assembly is installed. The former starting motors have not been canceled. A Special Instruction, Form SMHS7513 gives information on how to install the starting motor on the new flywheel housing.
Adaptable To: 3306 Truck Engines, with Serial Numbers 76R2810-up.
