3408 Truck Engines
According to field reports, some customers have had problems with too much vibration in the front end of the engine. Most of these problems have been on engines which have a heavy component installed on the front of the crankshaft. An analysis shows that this addition of weight can increase the effect of small differences in crankshaft balance, which are normally within (inside) tolerance specifications. The result is too much vibration during operation at normal engine rpm.
While there are several other possible causes of too much engine vibration, the effect of front component weight has been found to be a primary cause. As a result of these tests, a new damper adapter has been released. Tests show that the effect of front component weight is less when the new adapter is used. For this reason, the recommendation is to install the new adapter on 3408 Truck Engines when engine vibration is above an acceptable level at normal engine rpm.
The new 2W2618 Adapter Assembly can be installed as a direct replacement for the former 4N2109 Adapter on all 3408 Truck Engines.
