Table 2
Chuck Out
Causes  Resolution
Excessive heat or cold, and/or flex fatigue  Check the tensioner and pulley condition. Replace the belt.

Abrasion

Abrasion
Causes  Resolution
Excessive pulley surface roughness, foreign object, and/or slipping  Inspect the pulley surfaces. Replace the belt.

Pilling

Table 4
Pilling
Causes  Resolution
Misalignment and/or contamination  Align all the pulleys and clean off any contaminants. Replace the belt.

Uneven Wear/Rib Splitting

Table 5
Uneven Wear/Rib Splitting
Causes  Resolution
Misalignment, incorrect installation, and/or belt jumping  Align all the pulleys and check the pulleys condition. Replace the belt.

Cracking

Table 6
Cracking
Causes  Resolution
Extreme heat or cold conditions, and/or flex fatigue  Cracking alone is not a failure. Belts can continue to run for 2 to 3 times longer after the first cracking occurs. If the belt is still performing, check the tension and pulley condition. Monitor the belt for other failure modes.
