Description Of Change: New software is now used on certain K Series Wheel Tractor Scrapers. The new software contains enhancements for the tractor transmission system, the implement system, the seat, and the monitoring system display.
Note: Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) software version 2015B is requires to configure machine hardware after flash is complete.
After flashing new software to an ECM or multiple ECM's, always reset the ECM by cycling the power supply. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position. Wait one minute. Turn the key start switch to the ON position. Verify that the operation of the machine is correct and that no new diagnostics have been activated.
Enhancement of Tractor Transmission/Chassis ECM Software:
The new software will impart the following improvements, enhancements, additions, or support:
- Added support for the CID 1893, FMI 07 (Inertial Measurement Sensor, Not Responding Properly), and CID 2110, FMI 07 (Machine Pitch Sensor, Not Responding Properly) diagnostic codes. When activated, these diagnostic codes indicate that the inertial measurement sensor connector is connected to the machine pitch sensor harness connector and vice versa. The sensor connectors are switched.
- Enhancement to the activation logic on twin engine models for the CID 1421, FMI 09 (Rear Engine Control Module, Abnormal Update), and the CID 296-9 (Transmission Control) to suppress unnecessary "loss of data link communication" diagnostics. These diagnostic codes will only be activated when the front engine is running, the transmission is in a gear other than NEUTRAL and one (or both) of the scraper ECM(s) is not communicating with the Monitoring System Display.
- Enhancement to the control logic for the Auto Raise Ladder feature. The feature will raise the ladder when the machine is traveling at a speed of
3.2 km/h (2.0 mph) or greater for 2 continuous seconds or longer. The intent is to minimize occurrences where the ladder could auto raise after a total travel time of 2 seconds even if the machine travel stopped and then resumed travel within the time period. - Enhancement to the activation logic for logging of the E1434 (Operator Seat Belt Unfastened) Event. The activation logic is not changing. If the Parking Brake is not engaged and the seat belt not fastened, the Event will be activated. When the E1434 Event is active, the event may be logged according to the following conditions:
If travel speed is less than
If travel speed is between greater than
If travel speed is greater than
- Enhancement to the control logic for the Tire Spin Reduction feature to delay activation for 2 seconds after the Load Assist feature transitions from active (loading) to not active (hauling). The intent of this change is to delay activation of the Tire Spin Reduction feature when a tire spin condition may be occurring at the same time that the Load Assist feature is transitioning from active to not active.
- Enhancements to the shift control logic intended to provide improved shift performance for the following upshifts; 2F to 3F, 3F to 4F, 5F to 6F, and 6F to 7F.
- Improvement to the shift control logic that is intended to minimize 3F to 2F to 3F shift hunting during downhill retarding conditions.
- Improvement to the transmission solenoid diagnostic code activations for CIDs 1401 to 1407. Diagnostics will now be activated at key ON if a failure condition occurs during service or other conditions with the key switch in the OFF position.
- Improvement to the transmission solenoid diagnostic codes for CIDs 1401 – 1407 such that diagnostics will now deactivate if a failure condition is corrected while the key is OFF.
- Improvement to activation logic for the CID 1893 (Inertial Measurement Sensor) and the CID 2110 (Machine Pitch Sensor). Activation of these diagnostics codes will be suppressed if a CID 1482, FMI 03 or FMI 04 (10V power supply, Voltage High or Voltage Low) is active.
- Enhancement to the activation logic for the CID 3797, FMI 03 or FMI 04 (Operator Seat Belt Switch, Voltage High or Voltage Low) and the CID 1292, FMI 03 or FMI 04 (Gear Hold Switch, Voltage High or Voltage Low). The diagnostic debounce time for both diagnostic codes has been increased from 1 second to 2 seconds in order to minimize unnecessary activations.
- Added support for the Access Ladder and the WAVS camera installations for OEM applications.
- Enhancement to increase the transmission oil temperature threshold that is used to determine when to switch the neutral clutches for transitioning out of the transmission cold mode. The oil temperature threshold has been increased from
10.0 °C (50.0 °F) to15.0° C (59.0 °F) . - Improvement to the activation logic for the CID 585, FMI 08 (Transmission Speed Sensor #1, Abnormal Frequency, Pulse Width or Period), and the CID 673, FMI 08 (Transmission Speed Sensor #2, Abnormal Frequency, Pulse Width, or Period). The ECM will now use the desired gear status instead of using the actual gear when executing 3F to 2F downshifts in order to minimize activations due to the slight delay between the desired gear command and the actual shift.
- Improvement to the activation logic for the CID 1046, FMI 03 (Power Train Oil Filter Bypass Switch, Voltage Above Normal), the CID 3916, FMI 03 (Brake Charge Pump Filter Bypass Switch, Voltage Above Normal), and the CID 3917, FMI 03 (Cushion Hitch and Pilot Supply Filter Bypass Switch, Voltage Above Normal) diagnostic codes. The ECM will suppress activation of these filter bypass diagnostics when the oil temperature is less than
45.0° C (113.0 °F) . - Improvement to the activation logic for the J1939 Data Link diagnostics that indicate a loss of communication between the CID 296, FMI 09 (Transmission / Chassis ECM, Abnormal Update Rate), CID 1421, FMI 09 (Rear Engine Control Module, Abnormal Update Rate), and the CID 1273 (Chassis Control Module / Rear Transmission ECM, Abnormal Update Rate). The logic requires that communication between the controls is established for 2 seconds or more before determining that satisfactory communication is occurring.
Enhancement of Implement ECM Software:
The new software will impart the following improvements, enhancements, additions, or support:
- Added support for an E136 (GPS Position Data Unavailable) Event that is activated when the GPS signal has been lost. This is an active only (not logged) event that is intended to indicate to the operator that any GPS-related functions are temporarily disabled due to the loss of GPS signal
- Added support for an icon in the LCD banner for "GPS Signal Pending". This icon is intended to indicate that the machine telematics are attempting to connect to the GPS satellites and that GPS-related features are disabled when the icon is active.
- Enhancement, on twin engine models, to the activation logic for the CID 1421, FMI 09 (Rear Engine Control Module, Abnormal Update), and the CID 296-9 (Transmission Control) to suppress unnecessary "loss of data link communication" diagnostics. These diagnostic codes will only be activated when the front engine is running, the transmission is in a gear other than NEUTRAL and one (or both) of the scraper ECM(s) is not communicating with the Monitoring System Display.
- Added support for the payload estimator functionality for 621K.
- Improvement to the "Ready" to "Unload" control logic used I the Sequence Assist feature. The elevator will now turn ON after programming the "Ready" to "Unload" settings.
- Improvement to the activation logic for CID 246, FMI 09 (Proprietary CAN Data Link, Abnormal Update Rate) diagnostic code that is intended minimize unnecessary logging of this companion code when a GPS receiver is not installed and the Load Assist feature is armed or the Cat Grade Control feature is armed.
- Improvement to the activation logic for the J1939 Data Link diagnostics that indicate a loss of communication between the CID 596, FMI 09 (Implement ECM, Abnormal Update Rate), and the CID 1421, FMI 09 (Rear Engine Control Module, Abnormal Update Rate). The logic requires that communication between the controls is established for 2 seconds or more before determining that satisfactory communication is occurring.
- Improvement that is intended to minimize unnecessary activations of the CID 3603, FMI 03 (Auto/Manual Switch, Voltage High), and the CID 874, FMI 03 (Mode Select Switch, Voltage High). The diagnostic debounce time has been increased from 0.5 seconds to 1 minute.
- Improvement that is intended to minimize unnecessary activations of the CID 1291 (Bail Switch), the CID 1293 (Cushion Hitch Switch), and the CID 490 (Implement Lockout Switch). The diagnostic debounce time for these diagnostic codes has been increased from 200 ms to 1 second.
