Usage:

There are several specific messages on these machines. The exact location of the messages and the description of the messages are reviewed in this section. Please become familiarized with all messages.

Make sure that all of the messages are legible. Clean the messages or replace the messages if the words or images are unreadable. When you clean the messages, use a cloth, water and soap. Do not use solvent, gasoline, or other harsh chemicals to clean the messages. Solvents, gasoline, or harsh chemicals could loosen the adhesive that secures the messages. Loose adhesive will allow the messages to fall.

Replace any message that is damaged, or missing. If a message is attached to a part that is replaced, install a message on the replacement part. Any Caterpillar dealer can provide new messages.

Engine coolant drain (1)

This message is located on the side of the generator set toward the bottom of the generator set.

This is the location of the engine coolant drain. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

Personal injury can result from hot coolant. Any contact with hot coolant or with steam can cause severe burns. Allow cooling system components to cool before the cooling system is drained.


Engine oil drain (2)

This message is located on the side of the generator set toward the bottom of the generator set.

This is the location of the engine oil drain. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change".

Cat ELC (Extended Life Coolant) (3)

This message is located near the radiator filler cap.

Air cleaner (4)

This message is located on the cover of the air cleaner. The air cleaner is located inside the engine compartment on the right side of the machine.

To avoid engine damage, use only Caterpillar radial seal air filters as replacement filters. Refer to the following topics for correct replacement instructions:

Ground (5)

This message is located on the control panel by the connection for grounding the generator set. This connection is the ground for the generator frame. This connection must be connected to a suitable earth ground with a resistance of no more than 25 ohms. Refer to the following topic:

Prop rod for the doors (6)

This message is located at the bottom of the opening for the doors on the enclosure.

Use the prop rod in order to secure the doors of the generator set in the open position. The prop rod is stored on the bottom of the door. Use the clip on the bottom of the door to store the prop rod when the doors are closed.

Torque for the bolts (7) that fasten the eye to the trailer

This message is located on the tongue of the trailer.

Tighten the bolts that fasten the eye to the tongue of the trailer to a torque of 370 ± 50 N·m (273 ± 37 lb ft).

Parking brake (8)

This message is located above the lever for the parking brake at the rear of the trailer.

To apply the parking brake, pull the lever outward and pull the lever to the right. Adjust the tension for the parking brake by turning the lever. To disengage the parking brake, pull the lever to the left and push the lever inward.

Single point lifting eye (9)

This message is located on the side of the enclosure near the top of the enclosure.

This message is located on the bottom of the generator set and on the trailer.
