Problem

There is a brief overlap between the winch clutch engagement and winch brake
release which may cause the tracks to stop momentarily on D6H Tractors if the
winch is operated while the tractor is moving. This momentary stoppage of
the tracks can cause a severe jerking and possibly damage a coupling
ortransmission shaft.

"K" or "S" stamped near the serial number plate. A reworked
winch may also be identified by the two tapped holes used to
secure the valve assembly on the front of the case. (See
Illustration 1) The new valve assembly installed as part of the
rework can also be fond by removing 9G1403 Access Cover fond in
Illustration 2.

Rework Procedure
Note: Use the Service Manual for Disassembly and Assembly; and Testing and
Adjusting instructions not included in this rework procedure.
1. If winch is mounted on the tractor, remove the winch.
2. Drill two 8.2 mm diameter holes using dimensions in Illustration #1.
3. Tap the holes using a 3/8" - 16 tap.
4. Remove the 9G1403 Cover and 9G1404 Gasket. See Illustration #2. Remove
the winch filter.
5. Remove the 9G2035 Tube Assembly. See Illustration #3.
6. Install the 5K9244 Elbow and the 6K6826 Elbow in to the 6Y9349 Valve.
Orient the elbows as shown in Illustration #4.
7. Mount the valve assembly on the inner front wall of the winch case,
using two OT0573 Bolts and two 5M2894 Washers installed in the tapped
holes described in Steps 2 and 3. Coat the bolt threads with 9S3263
Thread Lock.
8. Install the 8E0589 and 8E0590 Tube Assembly. Install the ends of the
tube assemblies to the elbows on the valve assembly first. Then install
the other ends to the existing fittings. See Illustration #4.
9. Remove the 7T6637 Cover and 3S9233 Seal from the filter bypass group.
See Illustration #5.
10. Install the 6Y9510 Cover on the filter bypass group. Position the cover
assembly shown in Illustration #5. ("no inch" mode)
Note: The new 9Y9349 Check Valve is set in the "no inch" mode to agree with
the regular setup of the hydraulic controls. If the group is changed to the
"inch" mode, the check valve plugs (see Illustration 1) must also be
interchanged and the 6Y9510 Cover must be turned over. If the plugs are not
switched, input clutch pressure build-up is slowed, and the brake will
release before the clutch can pick up the load. Fine lowering control is
lost as the input clutch and power from the converter are used to power
through a slipping brake.
11. Remove the 7T6636 Plug and position the 7T6635 Pin as shown in
Illustration #5. Reinstall the 7T6636 Plug.
Note: The 7T6635 Pin should remain in the position described above if the
winch is converted to the "inch" mode of operation.
12. Install the winch filter, the 9G1403 Cover and the 9G1404 Gasket.
13. Install the winch on the tractor and test the operation of the winch.
