Machine Preparation
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns. To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the work tool hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed. Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch. |
- Start the engine.
- Position the machine on level ground.
- Lower the stabilizers, the blade tip, and/or the implement in order to raise the front axle and the rear axle. This will allow the wheels to turn freely. All tires must be fully off the ground.
- Stop the engine.
- Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".
- Connect a 60000 kPa (8700 psi) pressure gauge to pressure tap (1) .

The remote pressure taps are located behind the left rear access door. (1) Pressure tap (Load sensing signal pressure) |
- Assemble the test fittings for the "M1" port on the travel motor. Refer to Illustration 3.

- Remove port plug (3) from the "M1" port on the travel motor.
- Install the test fittings for the "M1" port.
- Connect a 25000 kPa (3600 psi) pressure gauge to the "M1" port.
- Start the engine.
- Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 55° ± 5°C (131° ± 9°F).
- Lower the setting on main relief valve (9) until the pressure gauge reading on pressure tap (1) is 26000 kPa (3771 psi).

- At the soft switch panel, disable AEC (10) by pushing down on the button. The indicator light will not be illuminated when the AEC is disabled.

Right Side of Cab Seat (12) Service tool connector |
- Start Electronic Technician.
- Select the "Machine ECM" from the list of available controls.
- Go to the "Diagnostics/Override Parameters" menu.
- Adjust the current values of both the "Travel Motor Swash Plate Angle Limit Solenoid Current Override" and "Travel Pilot Solenoid Current Override" to 0.800 amperes.

ET Configuration Screen |
- Adjust the "Hydraulic Fan Speed Override" to 100 percent.
Note: Do not advance past this ET configuration screen during the entire test. Switching to another screen will cause the settings to be lost.
Test
- Fully depress the service brake pedal.
- Adjust the engine speed to HIGH IDLE by turning the engine speed dial to position 10.
- At the soft switch panel, push down on the button for transmission control (11) in order to select SECOND GEAR. The second indicator light will illuminate when the transmission is in SECOND GEAR.
- Depress the travel speed pedal fully in the FORWARD position.
- Check the pressure reading on the pressure gauge at the "M1" port. If the pressure reading is not 13000 to 13500 kPa (1886 to 1959 psi), adjust the adjustment screw for upstroke pressure on the travel motor to the correct specification.
Adjust
To prevent injury or death, never work under a machine while a test is being performed. |
- Loosen the locknut on the adjustment screw for upstroke pressure (2) .
- Carefully adjust the adjustment screw for upstroke pressure until the pressure gauge reading at the "M1" port is 13000 to 13500 kPa (1886 to 1959 psi).
Note: Turning the adjustment screw clockwise increases the upstroke pressure.
Note: Always make the final pressure adjustments on the pressure rise.
- Tighten the locknut.
- Reset the main relief valve to the correct specification. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Relief Valve (Main) - Test and Adjust".
