Usage:
preparatory steps:
a) remove front timing gear cover
b) remove valve covers
1. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise (as viewed from front of engine) to top dead center compression stroke No. 1 piston. See LOCATING TOP DEAD CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING.
2. Install the camshaft timing pins in the right and left inlet camshafts.
3. Remove the front balancer (1). Remove the balancer thrust washers from cylinder block and from front timing gear cover. Using tool setup (A), remove bearing from balancer.
4. Remove the idler gear (2). Remove the idler gear thrust washers from cylinder block and from front timing gear cover. Using tool setup (B), remove bearing from idler gear.
Install Front Balancer And Idler Gear
1. Using tool setup (B), install bearing in idler gear. Install idler gear thrust washers in cylinder block and front timing gear cover. Install the idler gear on engine with "V" mark on gear aligned with "V" mark on crankshaft gear, and "F" mark on idler gear toward the balancer.
2. Using tool setup (A), install bearing in balancer. Install balancer thrust washers in cylinder block and front timing gear cover. Install the balancer on engine with "F" mark on balancer gear aligned with "F" mark on idler gear.
NOTICE |
---|
Always be sure that the No. 1 piston is at top dead center compression stroke, and the timing pins are installed in timing slots in left and right inlet camshafts before installing balancer or idler gear. Damage to the engine can result if above procedure is not followed. |
3. Remove all timing pins from their timing slots. Install timing pins in their respective storage positions.
