Diagnostic Trouble Codes Associated with the Tire Monitoring System
MID 087 - Chassis ECM
CID 3473 - Tire Monitoring Module
FMI 02 - Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect
This diagnostic code indicates the Chassis ECM software location code does not match the hardware location codes.
The following can cause this code:
- Incorrect ECM software part number
- Incorrect ECM part number
MID 087 - Chassis ECM
CID 3473 - Tire Monitoring Module
FMI 09 - Abnormal Update Rate
This diagnostic code indicates the Chassis ECM is receiving information from the Tire Monitoring Module, but this information is not correct.
The information is routed through the CAN data-link. The information flow must be interrupted for more than 5 seconds for this diagnostic code to be active.
MID 087 - Chassis ECM
CID 3473 - Tire Monitoring Module
FMI 12 - Bad Device or Component
This diagnostic code is recorded when the Chassis electronic control module (ECM) reads a diagnostic code that is internal in the ECM. The electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) in the ECM may have failed. The EEPROM remembers the programmable parameters when electrical power is not applied to the ECM.
The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
- The ECM has been replaced or new software has been installed
- There is an error with the internal memory
MID 087 - Chassis ECM

This diagnostic code indicates the Chassis ECM is not receiving expected information from the Tire Monitoring Module.
The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
- Disconnected connectors
- Faulty harness
- Incorrect Tire Monitoring ECM software
- Incorrect Chassis ECM software
- Incompatible software
- Failed Tire Monitoring ECM fuse
MID 087 - Chassis ECM
CID 3474 - Left Front Tire Pressure/Temperature Sensor
FMI 04 - Voltage Below Normal
This diagnostic code indicates the Chassis ECM detects the Left Front Tire Pressure/Temperature sensor voltage is below normal.
The voltage is supplied by a battery that is contained within the sealed case of the sensor. When the voltage from the battery is low, the sensor will no longer operate. The pressure sensor sends a wireless signal to the Tire Monitoring Module. The Chassis ECM monitors the condition of the pressure sensors via a data link connection with the Tire Monitoring Module.
MID 087 - Chassis ECM
CID 3474 - Left Front Tire Pressure/Temperature Sensor
FMI 09 - Abnormal Update Rate
This diagnostic code indicates the Chassis ECM detects the update rate from the Left Front Tire Pressure/Temperature sensor is abnormal.
The pressure sensor sends a wireless signal to the Tire Monitoring Module. The Chassis ECM monitors the condition of the pressure sensors via a data-link connection to the Tire Monitoring Module.
If the sensor is not responding, drive the truck or rotate the tire for approximately 7 to 10 minutes to allow the opportunity for the sensor to be received by the antenna. The 389-7004 Tool may be used to attempt to read the sensor. If the tool times out before the signal is received,, make an additional four attempts in case there is environmental interference causing difficulty in signal strength. If the sensor cannot be picked up by using any of these methods, the sensor will need to be replaced.
Note: After replacing a tire, reset the monitoring system to determine the location and identity code of each tire pressure sensor on the truck. Each sensor has a unique code, which identifies the sensor and the sensor location. If the tire monitor system is not reset, the Chassis ECM will initialize FMI 09 35 minutes after the truck is returned to service.
MID 087 - Chassis ECM
CID 3475 - Right Front Tire Pressure/Temperature Sensor
FMI 04 - Voltage Below Normal
This diagnostic code indicates the Chassis ECM detects the Right Front Tire Pressure/Temperature sensor voltage is below normal.
CID 3475 - Right Front Tire Pressure/Temperature Sensor
