Usage:

Assembly Of Forward Clutch

NOTE: The assembly procedure is for the most part a reverse of disassembly procedure. Therefore, the entire photographic sequence will not be shown during assembly process.

1. If removed, install the heated front bearing inner race onto the input shaft.

2. Install a new piston ring and O-ring onto the clutch piston.

3. Install the clutch piston by aid of special tool TD 300407.

4. Install the clutch release spring and spring retainer.

5. Compress the spring using a hydraulic press and special tool TD 300413 to install the snap ring into the groove provided on the clutch shaft.

NOTE: Submerge all sintered clutch plates in SAE 30 or 40 weight engine oil for a one hour minimum.

6. Install the clutch plates as follows: Start with a sintered metal clutch plate and alternatively install the ten sintered metal clutch plates and the nine steel clutch plates into the transfer gear.

7. Install the clutch backplate and snap ring.

8. Install the front thrust bearing onto the input shaft in this order: thrust race (with recessed bore over the snap ring), needle bearing, and thrust race.

9. Install the rear thrust bearing in the forward pinion, thrust race, needle bearing, and thrust race, in that order.

10. Pre-align splined teeth on steel clutch plates and install the forward pinion in the input shaft aligning the steel plates with the splines on the pinion.
