Cat® Digital Voltage Regulator Caterpillar

Generator Overcurrent - Troubleshoot

Usage:

SR4B 1BN

  • Verify that the potential transformers are installed correctly.

  • Is there a difference between sensed voltage and rated voltage? That is, does a difference exist from the voltage that is sensed off the wye center tap to the rated voltage?

OK - If yes, go to Step 4.

NOT OK - If no, go to Step 3.

  • Verify that the following parameters are programmed as follows:

    • The Rated voltage (V) equals the generator rated voltage

    • The PT primary (V) equals the generator rated voltage

    • The PT secondary (V) equals the generator rated voltage

    Go to step 4.

  • Verify that the field winding inputs to the CDVR are not partially shorted or shorted completely.

OK - If winding inputs are ok, go to Step 5.

NOT OK - If winding inputs not ok, repair winding input fault. Check the system again.

    STOP.

  • Check exciter for proper resistance value.

OK - If exciter resistance value is ok, go to Step 6.

NOT OK - If exciter resistance value is not ok, repair exciter fault. Check the system again.

    STOP.

  • If all of the previous steps fail to correct the malfunction, replace the voltage regulator.

    STOP.
