PS-150C Paving Compactor Caterpillar


Engine Starting

Usage:

PS-150C FPS

------ WARNING! ------

To prevent personal injury, be sure all personnel are clear of the machine. Sound the horn for several seconds before starting the engine.


------ WARNING! ------

Do not use ether. This machine is equipped with glow plugs. Using ether can create explosions or fires that can cause personal injury or death. Read and follow the engine starting procedure in the Operation and Maintenance Manual.



NOTICE

Do not crank the engine for more than 20 seconds. If the engine does not start, allow the starter to cool for two minutes before cranking again. The engine start switch must be turned to the OFF position before trying to restart.

  1. Move propel control lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

  2. Push parking brake knob (2) downward.

  3. Move throttle control (4) upward to the HIGH position.

  4. Turn key (5) to the ON position.

  5. Push the switch for the glow plug (3) upward for 20 seconds in order to heat the glow plugs.

    Note: If the engine is already warm from previous operation, the glow plugs do not need to be heated.

  6. Crank the engine by turning key (5) to the START position. When the engine starts, release the key. Release the switch for the glow plug (3). Leave throttle control (4) in the HIGH position until the engine is running smoothly. Move throttle control (4) to the LOW position after the engine is running smoothly in order to allow the engine and the machine to warm-up properly.

    Note: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine and Machine Warm-Up" for further information.
